Moen jo Daro: Metropolis of the Indus Civilization (2600-1900 BCE) A Personal View

Photographed by Amean J
Forewords by N.A. Baloch and Vasant Shinde

A beautiful book with excellent photographs by Amean J of Mohenjo-daro, many fine Indus-themed paintings by the renowned Pakistani painter Laila Shehzada, and well written essays by Parveen Talpur exploring in particular the close relationships between ancient Mohenjo-daro and contemporary Sindhi traditions and practices.

The author has many personal connections to the area and subject and brings them out in a fresh and fruitful way. One of the most extraordinary has her putting some chaupan game pieces from her family next to a one in the Mohenjo-daro Museum. They fit together nicely.

Laila Shehzada was one of Pakistan's finest post-partition painters in the 1960s and 1970s, and left behind some extraordinary paintings full of ancient Indus themes, many of which are shown here.

A fine contribution to the growing body of Pakistani literature on the ancient Indus Civilization.
