Cast Nets 8

One of the main methods of catching fish is using casting or throw nets. The mesh size (or “eye”) is currently controlled by fisheries laws by the Punjab Province. However, mesh size will vary depending on the target species of fish. Like a sieve, the mesh size controls for the smallest fish that can be caught using this technology. Even during the manufacturing, a net gauge is used to create the eye using various types of knots. Unlike other styles of nets in the world, the Punjabi cast net has draw strings that are attached to the net base. These strings pass through a wooden ring, so that the bottom of the net can be pulled together to trap the fish. This type of nets is used in isolated bodies of water and require a certain amount of practice and talent to become proficient in their use.
